This conference is designed to provide the first segment of a 3-part core curriculum process that is relevant to the success of physicians managing critical care air and ground transport teams.  Topics are selected from Principles & Direction of Air Medical Transport.

Educational Objectives:
At the completion of this conference participants will be able to:

  • Explain transport utilization issues relevant to medical direction including indications for medical transport.
  • Discuss management issues facing the medical director, including the role they play in the success of the transport team.
  • Define flight physiology and its impact on transport crewmembers and patients.
  • Relate the importance and value of CAMTS certification standards as they apply to the medical director.
  • Describe the impact of infectious disease processes on transport team members and explain how to maintain safe practice guidelines. 
  • Outline the history of air medical transport and how military applications transfer to present day civilian use.
  • Describe the types of scans possible in flight, and the steps necessary to have a robust ultrasound program.
  • Show how proper pain control makes the patient more comfortable as well as facilitates a more accurate history and    physical exam.
  • Describe regulations impacting air medical critical care transport that the medical director needs to know.
